Some malicious websites may send pop-ups to your computer with the intent of extorting money. These pop-ups can come in the form of explicit images or videos, threats that your computer is infected with a virus, or prompts to call a number for support. These should be ignored, and the pop-ups should be disabled. Instructions for disabling these pop-ups are below. Please reach out to IT if you have any questions or concerns.

To disable these pop-ups, you must first determine your browser.

Google Chrome:

- Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the upper-right corner. Then, select Settings.

- Select Privacy and security on the left, and then click Site Settings.

- Scroll down to Permissions and select Notifications.

- You should now see two sections for Blocked and Allowed.

- Under the Allowed section, look for any sites that you do not recognize. Click on the three dots to the right of that site's name, and click on Block.

Microsoft Edge:

- Go to Settings and more (the three dots) in the upper right corner of your browser window.

- Select Settings  > Cookies and site permissions, and select Notifications. Under Allow, you will find a list of websites that are currently sending you notifications.

- Look for any sites that you do not recognize. Click on the three dots to the right of that site's name, and click on Block.

Mozilla Firefox:

- Go to the browser menu at the top right (the three lines) and select Settings.

- On the left, click on Privacy & Security.

- Scroll down to the Permissions window and select Settings, and then select the settings for Notifications.

- Look for any sites that you do not recognize. Next to each site, there is a dropdown menu where you can change the setting to block push notifications.

Safari:

- Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Notifications  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

- Below Application Notifications on the right, click an app or website, then turn off “Allow notifications.”
