Just like any other machine, your computer requires attention and care to keep it in good working order. Follow the guidelines below to keep your computer in good working condition for as long as possible.
- Turn your computer off at the end of every workday. Putting it to sleep is not the same as a full shutdown; you can think of a computer's sleep mode as more of it closing its eyes rather than fully going to sleep as a person would. The computer is still on, and saving everything you were doing. A full shutdown allows the computer to start fresh and clean the next day, with no leftover issues or anything building up from the past.
- If something you don't recognize asks for any kind of permissions, do not allow it. It's better to be on the safe side rather than allow permissions for something that is possibly malicious. Only trust official sites. If you have any questions on if something is legitimate or not, reach out to IT.
- Keep your hard drive/storage as clean as possible. It's not necessary to clean it too often, but giving it a once-over every year is a good idea. You can follow the instructions in this article to do so: https://spccroch.happyfox.com/kb/article/6-problem-running-out-of-hard-drive-space/
